Here is Poppy at 16yrs old. There’s something profoundly moving about an old dog. The white hairs around their muzzle, the slow wag of their tail, the way they wobble when they walk – it all tells a story of a life well-lived.
An old dog doesn’t chase every passing squirrel. Instead, they find comfort in familiar routines. A sunny spot on the patio, the slow rhythm of a neighbourhood walk, the reassuring sound of their owner’s voice. They remind us that happiness doesn’t always come from chasing the new, but from cherishing the known.
In their quiet presence, we see the beauty of loyalty and endurance. An old dog may no longer leap as they once did, but their heart beats just as fiercely with love. They’ve walked beside us through times of great joy and periods of great sorrow and in their eyes we see a reflection of every shared memory.
Caring for an old dog is an honour. It teaches us patience, gratitude, and the value of slowing down. And when they finally rest their head in our lap, content and at peace, we realise that they’ve been teaching us about life all along ♥️🐶♥️
